Picture Gallery

The picture gallery consists of slide shows which are opened by clicking on the titles below; please be patient, some of the pictures are quite large and may take a while to download. We would really appreciate your pictures of Rietvlei, please email them to us; we will of course give you full credit for all pictures used. If you have interesting prints, we would like to borrow them so that we can scan them and place them on the website. A short description and a date (approximate if it cannot be accurate) with all pictures will be sincerely appreciated.

Special Galleries: • Early Rietvlei. Axel Adelbert sent us an interesting picture of Rietvlei taken in 1982. We also include aerial photographs from the late 1950's or early 1960's. • Frieda & Jan Prinsloo Galleries. Frieda & Jan Prinsloo are avid photographers and have taken some great pictures of Rietvlei. Click on the item below to view their pictures, more can be viewed on the SA Voëlklub Album. Rietvlei has a number of interesting animals of the non-feathered variety; we are starting this gallery to show these.

General Galleries: • Winter floods July 2008. Good heavy rains in early July raised the water levels in the vlei and river higher than last year's floods. • Winter floods July 2007. Heavy rain in late July resulted in the levels of the vlei rising higher than it had in many years.  PLUS - Aerial photos by Bruce Sutherland, City of Cape Town. • Winter 2007. The winter rains means that Rietvlei has once again filled up with water. • Rietvlei - Early August 2006. After nearly 140mm rain during June and July, the water level is rising. • Rietvlei - June 2006. After the first winter rains in May, the eastern vlei is just starting to fill up with water. • Milnerton Lagoon - June 2006. The lagoon on a tranquil Sunday morning in winter. • Rietvlei - 1996-2002. These pictures were on the old website and date from approximately 1996 to 2002.
