Diep River Walk - 16
September 2007 |
|
|
|
|
Sunday
afternoon
16
September
turned
out
to
be a
lovely
afternoon
for
a
walk
in
the
Diep
River
area
north
of
Blaauwberg
Road
Bridge.
A
group
of
twenty-three
joined
in
the
walk
led
by
Cliff
Dorse
and
Sandiso
Kraai
from
Cape
Town
Nature
Conservation.
The
walk
started
at
the
Raats
Drive
/
Gie
Road
junction,
the
group
walked
along
the
edge
of
the
river
behind
the
Tuscan
Waters
development,
and
then
on
into
the
floodplain
area
south
of
the
railway
line.
Many
of
the
spring
flowers
were
in
full
bloom
and
Cliff
identified
many
of
the
rare
and
interesting
species
for
the
group.
We
walked
northwest
into
the
corridor
which
will
link
the
Diep
River
to
the
Blaauwberg
Conservation
Area,
and
were
shown
some
interesting
remnants
of
fynbos.
The
open
area
across
Gie
Road
from
Parklands
is
really
looking
well
after
most
of
the
invasive
aliens
had
been
removed.

pictures
