Elzette
Krynauw,
Senior
People
and
Conservation
Officer:
North
Region,
of
the
City's
Biodiversity
Management
Branch,
reports
as
follows:
I
want
to
say
a
big
thank
you
to
the
Friends
of
Rietvlei
for
sponsoring
the
two
busses
for
Sophakama
Primary
to
visit
the
Table
Bay
Nature
Reserve!
We
had
the
Grade
7’s
with
a
few
extra
grade
3’s
on
the
second
day.
I
only
got
to
take
photos
of
the
second
visit.
They
are
not
the
best
quality,
but
it
gives
the
general
feeling
of
how
much
the
learners
enjoyed
the
day.
Jade
took
the
Grade
7’s
for
a
miniSASS
activity
(photos

and
10
where
Jade
is
explaining
the
activity
and
one
where
the
teacher
is
also
looking
for
the
invertebrates
which
the
learners
caught
with
their
nets.)
I
had
the
Grade
3’s
and
surprisingly,
for
the
first
time
language
was
not
a
problem!
They
just
loved
being
at
the
nature
reserve,
they
enjoyed
using
the
binoculars
and
what
a
bonus
it
was
to
have
some
Xhosa
bird
names
on
the
ID
charts!
They
taught
me a
few
names
and
was
very
willing
to
learn
a
few
English
names.
The
teacher,
Mr
Tschuma,
has
at
last
been
permanently
employed
at
the
school
and
I am
looking
forward
to
build
on
the
relationship
we
have
with
Mr
Tschuma
and
the
school.
