Hacking aliens in the
Diep River Corridor - 19 June 2010 |
|
|
|
|
Saturday
19
June
2010
was
cold
early
in
the
morning,
but
it
did
warm
up
to
become
a
very
pleasant
day.
Unfortunately
only
a
very
few
members
joined
our
Site
Conservation
Officer,
Henk
Louw,
to
help
him
get
rid
of
some
Port
Jackson
that
was
sprouting
up
again. |
The
area
that
we
tackled
had
been
cleared
by a
Working
for
Wetlands
team
a
few
years
ago,
but
there
was
still
a
lot
of
seedlings
coming
up.
In
spite
of
there
being
only
six
of
us
to
hack,
at
the
end
of a
couple
of
hours
of
hacking
we
could
honestly
say
that
we
had
made
a
difference. |

The area that we hacked was covered in small Port Jackson plants, just a suitable size for the tree poppers. |

Let's get them out roots and all! |

Tree poppers are very effective, but can also be quite heavy to tote around. |

A few hours ago this area was covered in Port Jackson plants - a job well done! |

Tired, but satisfied with having done our bit, we are preparing to pack up. |
